Christmas Bible Verses for Cards

•Christmas is the perfect time to express your faith personally in your holiday cards or newsletters.

Adding a Christmas Bible verse to your Christmas cards shows your love for Jesus and that He is your “reason for the season.”

It’s a small way to show that the things we love about celebrating Christmas come from a place of abundant joy- that God loved us so much He sent us His only Son!

Christmas Bible Verses

Isaiah 9:6

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

What beautiful descriptions of Jesus’ character!

Matthew 1:20-21

“An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. “

The name Jesus means “the Lord saves.” We couldn’t save ourselves from sin and it’s consequences, only Jesus can.

Luke 2:10-11

“Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. that will cause great joy for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’”

Instead of proclaiming over our gifts, “It’s just what I wanted!”, this gift is “just what we needed!”- a Savior! Great joy!

John 1:14

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

What an amazing statement from John- the Almighty God, King of the Universe, became flesh- a human man- to live among us.

Luke 1:30-31

“But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.’”

Isn’t it amazing that Mary plays such an important role in your personal salvation?? It’s humbling and inspiring to read of her faith and trust in God’s (seemingly impossible!) plan.

Matthew 1:22-23

“All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Immanuel- which means, ‘God with us.’”

God is with us– before we take our first breath and as we breathe our last. Every moment in between- the good and the bad- He is there to comfort, uphold, encourage, and love us- and continues into eternity.

Luke 2:6-7

“While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

There were no royal birth surroundings fit for a King, only a dirty cave/stable and an animal’s feeding trough. He left behind the glory and majesty of Heaven to come to earth. Even so, He immediately knew His mother’s love. Held in her arms, wrapped tightly, warm, and safe…

Matthew 2:1-2

“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” KJV.

Matthew 2:11

“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”

Short Christmas Bible Verses

Isaiah 7:14

“The Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel.”

One of the most well-known prophecies about Jesus’ birth is also in the book of Matthew (1:22-23).

John 1:4

“In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.”

Jesus is our life and light. We are dead and in darkness without Him.

Luke 1:37

“For nothing is impossible with God.”

This was the angel’s explanation to Mary about her miraculous pregnancy. What a beautiful reminder- there is nothing too hard for God!

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

The entire focus of the Gospel is in this verse- God gave up His only Son for you and for me.

Luke 2:13-14

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men!'”  NKJV.

All the world yearns for peace- then and now. The angels brought news of lasting peace wrapped in the most unlikely package!

Encouraging Christmas Bible Verses

Christmas time can difficult. Financial and personal hardships can put a damper on the season. But Christmas Scriptures give us hope within our struggles and the comfort and encouragement to show us what the season celebrates. Nothing and no one can take these gifts away from us.

We celebrate the birth of Christ as the beginning of His earthly life. There are so many truths and promises wrapped up in His coming. Many times, His own words convey the best of His love, promised hope, comfort, and care. He is our Prince of Peace!

Titus 3:4-5

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.”

 John 8:42

Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me.”

John 14:1 -3

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

Romans 15:13

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

The Christmas Story Bible Verses

We find the Christmas story in two places in the Bible: one written by Matthew (1:18-2:23), the other by Luke (2:1-52).
They each wrote for specific audiences – Matthew, a former Jewish tax collector, to his fellow Jewish Christians, and Luke, a doctor, and a Greek, to fellow Gentile Christians and people everywhere!

That explains the differences in how they tell the same story.

Matthew wanted to stress the Jewish identity of Jesus, and Luke’s emphasis was on Jesus’ humanity. They each bring differing aspects into their stories and complement each other.

Here are some ways to incorporate the Christmas Story Bible Verses into your season:

•Set aside a special time to read the Christmas story. Take turns reading aloud and discuss it together.

•After reading the story, you can make it interactive by finding Nazareth and Bethlehem on a map in your Bible.

•My husband’s parents always enjoyed having the grandchildren put on an impromptu play to reenact the Christmas story. Costumes were makeshift, and we let them tell the story!

•My Dad always read us the Christmas story from the Bible every year on Christmas Eve. It was one of the few times we all sat together while he read to us. It’s a special Christmas memory for me.

Biblical Christmas Message

I want to leave you with one last Christmas message from the Bible that may not be on your radar. It may have been an early Christian church hymn and parallels with prophecy in Isaiah 53. Paul encourages us to have the same attitude of Jesus:

Philippians 2:6-11

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!

Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father.”

The Christmas message is one of humbleness.

Jesus could have arrived as a regal King. Instead, He was born in a humble and lowly place, a helpless baby. His family was poor, His people despised, His occupation one of a humble carpenter. He endured temptations, humiliation, and an agonizing death.

As we reflect on His humble beginnings, let us renew our hearts to learn all we can about how to live as He did. May we never cease to wonder at how He came into our world, and celebrate it with all the joy, hope and peace this season brings.

 Merry Christmas Blessings!
